The Challenge: Fragmented Foundations

During the development of interfaces for the Natura-v3 theme, I uncovered a critical structural flaw within the GaYa Design System: the irregular application of border-radius tokens across input fields. Components fluctuated unpredictably between buttonBorderRadiusPill and arbitrary values, lacking a unified logic across the Grupo Natura ecosystem.

This fragmentation went beyond mere aesthetics. It created technical debt, complicated maintenance, and introduced visual noise that compromised the overall user experience. Without a definitive baseline, the system was highly vulnerable to scaling issues and visual regressions across different product lines.

The Strategy: Systemic Standardization

To resolve this inconsistency, I defined a new architectural standard anchored on the buttonBorderRadiusMedium token. By establishing a universal 16px border-radius for all interactive input components, the objective was to strike the optimal balance between functional usability and modern aesthetic principles.

The initiative required a decisive shift: deprecating outdated logic and consolidating a single, predictable reference within the system’s Design Tokens. This transformed an ambiguous guideline into a definitive, system-wide standard for all input fields, ensuring seamless adoption across current and future themes.

The Execution: Rigorous Validation and Cross-Functional Buy-in

Systemic change requires rigorous validation and strong team alignment. Over several weeks, I led a comprehensive technical audit, meticulously documenting edge cases and token variations.

Recognizing that the success of a design system hinges on communication, I facilitated strategic refinement sessions, alignment syncs, and targeted 1:1s with design and engineering teams. This collaborative approach ensured the new standard was stress-tested across all component states focus, hover, disabled, and error. The solution was only formalized after confirming that the token performed flawlessly in every context and strictly adhered to the brand's visual identity.

The Impact: A Cohesive Ecosystem

Spearheading this overhaul marked a significant maturity milestone for the GaYa Design System. By eradicating a deep-seated structural inconsistency, the update delivered immediate predictability, streamlined developer handoffs, and drastically reduced visual noise. The impact resonated broadly, elevating the user interface for products in Brazil and across multiple LatAm squads.

Ultimately, this initiative underscores my core philosophy as a Product Designer Lead: bridging the gap between granular technical audits and large-scale systemic solutions to drive measurable, scalable excellence in both the product ecosystem and the user experience.
